Battery Testers & System Analyzers
Battery Testers, Analyzers and performance meters provide the user with the means to properly diagnose and interpret the performance of a battery and battery operated system. Most newer units use the conductance method of determining state of charge and capacity of a battery. Other methods include load testing with carbon pile or resistive method and use discharge / voltage to render a result. Both systems work equally well and is a mere preference to choose by either feature or price.

Carbon Pile Load Testers (Resistive Load Testers) utilize a simple load coil (Fixed Load) on smaller units, or a carbon disk set (Variable Load) for larger units, on the battery being tested to simulate current draw and voltage drop, the results are then compared to determine the batteries ability to hold then discharge voltage.

Conductance is a measurement of the battery's ability to produce current. To measure conductance, the tester creates a small signal that is sent through the battery, then measures a portion of the AC current response. As a battery ages, the plate surface can sulfate or shed active material, which adversely affects its ability to perform. Conductance is a measure of the plate surface available in the battery, which determines how much power the battery can supply.

A Specific gravity level tester uses specific gravity and the number of floating discs to show state of charge. Accurate at all temperatures. Specific gravity levels are printed on the tough, see-through plastic body and feature a one-piece rubber bulb, neoprene tip.

A Hand Refractometer is a portable, precision optical instrument used for measuring the freeze point of engine coolant and the operation state of battery charging liquid and read actual specific gravity of electrolyte in a battery cell for an accurate measurement of battery state of charge.
